Juno

Went to see this last night, quite a nice film, nothing too challenging going on, little bit quirky sort of lo-fi cinemagtography with a similar kind of soundtrack, nice story about kind of funky backward / water US of A, story of a 16 year old tom boy getting knocked up by a athletics geek and the insuing tale of what they do with the unwanted child.
Would not say its a defo' go see but certainly a good DVD movie.

Control

Went to see Control on friday night with Catherine, at the Showroom in Sheffield (lesbian cinema as known in our household) Directed by Anton Corbijn and entirely shot in Black and White just to make you even more miserable!

The film is a biopic about the life of Ian Curtis the lead singer of Joy Division, who hung himself on the eve of the band embarking on a US tour and what seemed to be global musical stardom, well in an indie kinda way. The remaining encumbants of the band then went on to form New Order the rest is history as they say.

The film centres on Ian and his life, both personal and with the band, its a torrid tale of living in 70's dank Manchester, the film follows Ian from being a school boy to attending the seminal Pistols at the Manchester Free Trade Hall gig. (Where alledgedly all the 150 attendees formed some sort of band, from Morrissey to Bleedin' Mick Hucknall!!!!!!!) Then on to forming Joy Division. The rise of the band and the faliure of Curtis's marriage and the onset of epilepsy, up to his eventual suicide.

All of the parts are very well acted, with Rob Gretton being my favourite, mainly due to his witty lines and bonkers management style. I would definetly recommend going to see the film, if you are a fan of the band or not, in these times of hollywood blockbusters and special effects it is nice to see a film which basically lays everything down simply and tells you the story.

The main problem is that the film has not got a major release and is not showing at all cinemas nationwide, but its well worth hunting out. I would give it a definite 4 out of 5.

40. Bankrobber; The Clash 8/11/2007
For my 40th post as we seem to be getting a bit punky i've gone for the Clash, Bankrobber, the Clash were in my opinion by far the best punk band, melding together punk ethos, with rock, reggae and funk grooves, summing up the early '80s sounds into one package.

Im off now to polish the safety pin for my noise and don my bondage trousers and get ready to go and gob and piss on me mates! enjoy.

30. At Les; Carl Craig 29/10/2007
Carl Craig one of Detroit's best techno aficionados, At Les is one of many phenomenal tracks produced or remixed by Mr Craig.
I have been fortunate to catch a number of his sets which although not the slickest, always have energy and a very broad spectrum of music played, how it should be in my opinion.
Imust get my ass into gear and ripp Incognito, after the storm, which is an awesome remix of C2's.

10. The Things That Dreams Are Made Of; The Human League 11/10/2007

I celebrate my 10th audiolog with the League Unlimited Orchestra's - The Things That Dreams Are Made Of; An absolute classic of a tune, early electro pop, martin rushent production for the Human League, the tune has seen a major come back over the last couple of years, being of lot and lots of different peoples play lists, not that that matters at all as its always been on mine! Think i might grow a massive lopsided fringe and bang on some eye liner just to celebrate.
